Today, October 2, 2025, marks a momentous occasion in the history of Ghanaian journalism – the Daily Graphic's 75th anniversary.
From humble beginnings with a modest 2,000 copies in 1950, the Graphic Communications Group Ltd (GCGL) has evolved into the nation's foremost media house, renowned for its resilience, professionalism and journalistic excellence.
Founded by the Daily Mirror Group of Britain as the West African Graphic Company Limited, GCGL has undergone significant transformations over the years.
From private ownership to state control in 1964, and later, its current form as a limited liability company in 1999, the organisation has consistently demonstrated its ability to adapt and thrive.
Through these transitions, The Daily Graphic has remained committed to shaping the media landscape in Ghana.
What began as a single-newspaper outfit has blossomed into a multimedia news organisation, straddling both print and digital media.
With six major publications — Daily Graphic, The Mirror, Graphic Sports, Graphic Showbiz, Junior Graphic and Graphic Business, including our two digital channels — the Graphic Online and the Graphic NewsPlus — GCGL has become a household name in Ghana.
We haven’t ended there. We have invested heavily in our digitised archives to ensure that the treasure trove of the nation’s history we have chronicled since the maiden copy of the Daily Graphic hit the newsstand on October 2, 1950, is preserved. In fact, we have all the copies of the Daily Graphic to date.
Our evolution into a multimedia entity has enabled the various brands to reach a wider audience, providing timely, accurate and relevant news for our audience globally.
Undoubtedly, our advertising pedigree that spans decades helps create value and build markets for the breadth of Ghana’s local and international brands.
As The Daily Graphic celebrates its 75th anniversary, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our stakeholders who have played a crucial role in our journey.
To our past and present staff, we appreciate your dedication and hard work in upholding the values of journalistic excellence.
To our cherished loyal readers, by extension our audience, your support has been instrumental in our success.
We also acknowledge the contributions of our clients and customers who have done business with us over the years.
As we mark this milestone, we reaffirm our commitment to excellence in journalism.
We recognise the importance of a free and independent press in shaping the narrative of our nation's development.
The Daily Graphic will continue to provide accurate, balanced, and timely news to Ghanaians, holding those in power accountable and giving a voice to the voiceless.
As we look to the future, we are excited about the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.
We will continue to innovate, embracing new technologies and strategies to stay ahead of the curve.
We will remain committed to our core values of professionalism, integrity and excellence, ensuring that the Daily Graphic remains a trusted source of news and information for our audience both locally and internationally.
To our stakeholders, we say thank you for your unwavering support. Your trust in us has enabled us to reach this milestone, and we are grateful for your loyalty.
