Borborbor thrills at Okuapeman jazz festival
“The word ‘jazz’ is an expansive term and the idea is to show how a variety of our rhythms can be tailored to fit into that big world of jazz music.”
That is how guitarist George Darko, whose Okoman Records company is organising the first Okuapeman Jazz Festival at Akropong on Saturday, August 10, explains the inclusion of the New Vision Borborbor Group on the bill.
Also due to feature at the festival at the Akropong Palm Hill Hotel are King Ayisoba, Koo Nimo, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Sensational Wulomei, George Darko, Steve Bedi and Ofie Kodjoe.
New Vision Borborbor is led by Livingstone Apeletey. It is hard to sit still when it kicks up its infectious rhythms. The group has performed at many functions across the country and the leader says they are well-prepared to shake Akropong from 7.00pm on Saturday.
“We are a versatile group and can competently handle all sorts of styles. We will get everybody on the Akuapem hill to dance to our music,” Livingstone boasted.
Sponsors for the Okuapeman Jazz Festival are HFC Bank, Deloitte & Touche Ghana and Mechanical Lloyd with support from Star Beer and Guinness.
