Broadway Theatre Festival 2025 set to showcase Ghana’s cultural heritage

Accra will in October host the Broadway Theatre Festival 2025, a week-long celebration of dance, drama and heritage designed to spotlight Ghana’s cultural vibrancy while bringing together artists from across Africa and the diaspora.

Running from October 6-12 at the University of Ghana’s School of Performing Arts, the festival will feature performers and cultural leaders from Malawi, Kenya, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Nigeria, Togo and the United States. Organisers say the event will serve as a global stage for African creativity, positioning Ghana as a cultural hub on the continent.

At the core of the festival is the theme “Threads of Heritage: Weaving the African Identity,” which organisers say reflects the interplay between diverse ethnic traditions and the shaping of modern Ghanaian identity. The Festival Secretariat explained: “Heritage is not just what we inherit; it’s what we live and pass on. This festival is where the past meets the present, and where African voices find new strength on the global stage.”

Beyond stage performances, the programme will include panel discussions on topics such as “Music, Movement, and Meaning: What Ghanaian Dance and Drama Teach Us,” as well as masterclasses, workshops and a special Heritage Day dedicated to celebrating the communal spirit that unites Africa.

Delegates arriving in Accra on 5 October will be greeted at Kotoka International Airport with traditional Ghanaian drumming, symbolising unity and cultural pride. The gesture underscores Ghana’s role as a gateway to Africa and a meeting point for cultural exchange.

Festival organisers stressed that the event has evolved beyond an artistic showcase to become a platform for cultural diplomacy, education and tourism. “This is Africa telling its own story on its own terms with the world watching,” they said.

Audiences can expect seven days of immersive performances and discussions culminating in a finale that organisers describe as both a celebration and a reminder of Ghana’s place as a heartbeat of African heritage. Tickets are available via *714*003*7# or through HyperPay Ghana.
