Naija artistes not better than us -Gospel singer Joseph Mathew

Gospel artiste Joseph Mathew is certain that there is no point comparing artistes from Ghana and Nigeria since Ghana had proven itself worthy in the scheme of affairs of music in the sub region.

Speaking with Graphic Showbiz on the above subject, Joseph Mathew explained that Nigerian artistes appear to be doing better than their counterparts in Ghana because they invest heavily in promotions to get their music everywhere.

“Ghana is like a state in Nigeria. We have less than 40 million population compared to Nigerians who probably have over 300 million population. By the numbers and our present influence and contribution to music, we are even doing well.

“For many years, Ghana has been instrumental in the music space on the continent and the world because the country boasts of many great talents. Ghana’s setback is that we lack the numbers to back our works,” he said.

The gospel singer mentioned that the present narrative could change if players in the industry appreciated the worth of hugely investing in artistes and their works.

“Ghanaian artistes are always crying about money but Nigerians wouldn’t mind breaking the bank just to market their music. They really support themselves too but that is missing in our industry.

“The competition is out there and until we learn to trumpet what we have, we will continue to walk in the shadows of others when that shouldn’t be the case,” he added.
