Encroachment on Mukose road public lands
We, the concerned residents of the Tesano community, wish to bring to the attention of the authorities the illegal encroachment of public land along Mukose Road on the Tesano-North Kaneshie stretch.
Despite several complaints from the residents and all well-meaning citizens about illegal encroachment on the public land, obstruction of the road views, and blockage of the service lines of public utility providers, including GWCL, ECG and telecommunications companies, the developer has turned a deaf ear and extended structures that obstruct the public right-of-way.
The encroachment has led to illegal structures blocking road views and pedestrian walkways, increasing danger for motorists and pedestrians and heightening the risk of accidents.
Additionally, public utility service lines have been impacted, complicating future maintenance and expansion efforts.
The public safety implications of the encroachment — including illegal structures on the road reserves, pedestrians’ walkways, destroyed pipelines and acute water shortages, and the risk of road accidents — cannot be overstated.
The suffering of residents is further compounded by the developer's excavation work, which has broken water pipes, leaving the area without water.
Unauthorised structures on Naa Ata Street obstruct visibility for motorists and commuters from the Abeka-Tesano route, endangering the lives of schoolchildren, workers, and the elderly who must walk along the road's shoulders.
We are therefore appealing to all relevant authorities, including the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly, Member of Parliament and Assembly Member for the area, to step in to ensure the immediate:
(a) Demolition and removal of all illegal structures and obstructions on the public right-of-way along the Mukose Road, Tesano–North Kaneshie stretch.
(b) Repairs of all destroyed pipelines to restore proper water flow along the corridor.
(c) Restoration of the road reserve and pedestrians’ walkway to its proper width, and installation of physical barriers where necessary to prevent re-encroachment.
(d) Enforcement of applicable by-laws against those responsible for the blockage and encroachment, including the imposition of sanctions as provided for by law.
George Oko Mensah,
Resident,
