Touch one, touch all: Unbreakable spirit of Ghana

"Touch One, Touch All" is more than a popular Ghanaian saying; it is a reflection of our national character.

It speaks to the unity, solidarity and brotherhood that bind Ghanaians together regardless of tribe, religion or political affiliation.

Through moments of joy and adversity, Ghanaians have consistently shown that when one citizen is affected, the entire nation feels it.

Let it be said nowhere that Ghanaians are weak.

Our calm and hospitable nature should never be mistaken for timidity.

We are a peaceful people, but we are also proud of our identity, culture, and dignity.

Whenever these values are challenged, Ghanaians unite in defence of what matters most.

A recent example was the mockery directed at President John Dramani Mahama's traditional smock.

Many Ghanaians viewed the ridicule not merely as an attack on the President but as a slight against Ghanaian culture.

Across political divides, citizens came together to defend the smock as a proud symbol of our heritage, proving that when Ghana's dignity is questioned, we speak with one voice.

This same spirit was evident during the xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

News of attacks on foreign nationals, including Ghanaians, sparked concern across the country.

Citizens condemned the violence, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs moved swiftly to engage South African authorities and ensure the safety of affected Ghanaians.

This unity is deeply rooted in the ideals of Ghana's founding father, Kwame Nkrumah.

Nkrumah once said, "Ghanaians are not timid people.

They may be slow to anger, but once they are ready, they strike and strike hard.”

“It pays no one to tamper with Ghanaian freedom and dignity."

His words continue to inspire generations. It is seen whenever Ghanaians rally behind a national cause, defend one another abroad, and protect the image of the nation.

"Touch One, Touch All" reminds us that our greatest strength lies in our unity.

Indeed, to be Ghanaian is to know that when one is touched, all are touched.
