Spintex Road is a killing stretch

The Spintex Road is one of the fastest growing traffic-inducing roads outside the Accra metropolis. It links communities such as Teshie-Nungua, Tema, Baatsona and a number of estates in that corridor. You will not care to note carefully how precious a life is worth until you escape the clutches of death on one of the most ill-engineered roads in Ghana.

Ironically, one fateful night, this death trap of a road was about maiming and killing a young engineer who works with the same department that manages this said road in the Ledzokuku Krowor municipality.

There are not enough warning signs, no line markings and no streetlights to inform and warn road users at  night. And the most dangerous of them all are the small delineators in the middle of the road, with no reflectors to warn motorists ahead, which cause many accidents in the night, especially at the Tops N Tails night club area.

The general public must start suing the road agencies to alert them to sit up and not to design roads which eventually become killing machines.

The Spintex Road is not designed evenly in terms of vertical and horizontal alignments which easily confuses motorists and  pedestrians; whether a single or double lane, your guess is as good as mine.

A lot of awareness has been created by the residents and the media about the spate of accidents on this road, but the authorities have turned a deaf ear to the situation.

Maybe, they are waiting for a prominent member of society to die on this road before urgent and prompt action was taken to turn things around.

Common streetlight is a problem. Oh! Ghana my beloved country, how long shall we sit down and wail for the maiming and perishing of innocent lives on this Spintex Road.

Actually, this is my opinion; big men don’t care about the common man in the street.

The road agency in charge of the Spintex Road can learn from the engineering design of the Bush Road between GIMPA and the University of Ghana to save lives and property!

God kindly save us from this unnecessary catastrophe of a road which also serves as an important connection to Teshie-Nungua, Tema, Baatsona, Regimanuel and Manetville estates.
