GoldBod’s $214 million is a transactional cost and not a loss - Eric Afful, Chairman of Economic and Dev’t Committee of Parliament
The Majority Caucus in Parliament has rebutted the claims by the Minority Caucus that the Ghana Gold Board has incurred a $214 million loss in gold trade under the Gold for Reserve Programme.
The Caucus said the amount was a transactional and insurance cost the GoldBod incurred in its gold trading activities for 2025.
It said both the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) and the Chief Executive of the GoldBod would, within January and March 2026, render accounts to Parliament as they were statutory required to do so.

The Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Mr Sammy Gyamfi, has said he will address allegations surrounding reported losses under Ghana’s gold for reserve programme on January 5, 2026.
In a statement posted on social media on Monday, [December, 29, 2025], in response to a press conference by the Minority Caucus in Parliament that stated that the state risks losing close to $300 million under the programme by the end of the year.
Mr Gyamfi said his statement would address issues arising from the International Monetary Fund’s reported loss of $214 million under the Gold for Reserves programme, which is being implemented by the Bank of Ghana with GoldBod, formerly the Precious Minerals Marketing Company.

Minority calls for bipartisan committee to probe loss of $214m gold trade loss
The Minority Caucus in Parliament is demanding a bipartisan parliamentary inquiry into the circumstances under which Ghana lost $214 million in the first nine months of 2025 under the Gold for Reserve Programme.
The caucus said such an ad hoc investigative committee should have the power to subpoena the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), the Chief Executive of the Ghana Gold Board, and other persons to provide answers into how such a loss occurred.

Heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua injured in car crash in Nigeria, with two others dead
British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua has been involved in a car crash on the Ogun–Lagos state expressway in Nigeria.
The 36-year-old, has family roots in Sagamu, a town in Ogun State, south-west Nigeria.
A statement from the Ogun State Police Command in Nigeria, confirms that two people died in the crash, which also injured Anthony Joshua.

Ho mosque shooting incident: Police release 14 suspects from custody
The Office of the Volta Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Ali Muniru has condemned the Boxing Day shooting incident at the Ho Central Mosque by a group of assailants, saying it violated the sanctity of the house of worship and left innocent worshippers injured.
In a statement dated December 27, 2025, issued by the office and signed by the spokesman for the Regional Chief Imam, Chief Adamu Hamani, he said the tragic incident was the outcome of the deliberate and prolonged obstruction to the lawful authority of the Volta Regional Chief Imam, despite his recent affirmation by the National Chief Imam, Sheik Osman Nuhu Shaributu, by a faction at the Sabong Zango.

TOR resumes crude oil refining operations with about 28,000 barrels per stream daily
The Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has officially resumed crude oil refining operations after several years of inactivity, marking a significant milestone in efforts to revitalise Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector and strengthen national energy security.
The resumption follows the successful completion of major Turnaround Maintenance (TAM) works on the refinery’s Crude Distillation Unit (CDU), carried out over three months from August 1 to October 30, 2025.
