The University of Ghana (UG) has reached a historic milestone with the promotion of Prof. Daniel Adu Ankrah from the rank of Associate Professor to the rank of Professor, making him the first and youngest Professor in Agricultural Extension since the Department of Agricultural Extension was established nearly 50 years ago in 1976. 

Prof. Ankrah, the current Head of Department, has risen through the academic ranks with unprecedented speed, completing the journey from Lecturer to Professor in just nine years—one of the fastest trajectories in the University’s history. 

His achievement breaks long-held assumptions that professorial ranks are reserved for much older academics, especially within public universities in Ghana.

The University of Ghana has promoted Prof. (Mrs.) Dilys Sefakor MacCarthy, Head of the Soil and Irrigation Research Centre (SIREC), School of Agriculture, College of Basic and Applied Sciences, to the rank of Professor of Plant Nutrition. 

This well-deserved elevation marks a significant milestone not only in her distinguished career but also in the history of the University. 

Prof. MacCarthy becomes the first female Professor of Plant Nutrition and the first female Professor within the School of Agriculture, an achievement that underscores her outstanding commitment, dedication, passion and academic excellence.

A 25-year-old unemployed woman, Helena Aba Kwansah Abakah, who allegedly stole an eight-month-old baby boy and circumcised him, has appeared before the Tarkwa Circuit Court in the Western Region.

The mother of the baby, Ms Halima Joll, told the police that circumcision was against the cultural practices of her people.

A regular customer of the husband’s business and a friend played a prank on her.

The pain had become unbearable. Bethlyn Arthur could not lift her arm. It was swollen and stiff, and no medication seemed to work.

Her body was weak, her blood levels were dangerously low, and she had already been in and out of the hospital for weeks. It was 18 weeks into her second pregnancy and even basic tests such as an X-ray could not be done because of the risk to her unborn child.

Then came the words that changed everything. With the level of pain she was in, the doctors said, they might have to terminate the pregnancy to save her life.  She sat there, carrying both the weight of the pain and the fear of losing her baby.

An Adenta Circuit Court has directed three young men to each pay GH₵4,000 as compensation to a teacher they attacked, and also ordered them to sign a two-year bond to be of good behaviour or risk going to prison.
