Learners of UHAS Basic School show love to children at Ho Teaching Hospital

Learners of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Basic School at Sokode-Lokoe, near Ho, donated food items, soft drinks, detergents, toiletries, and bales of clothes to the Paediatric Unit of the Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH) during the yuletide season.

This gesture formed part of the school’s annual outreach programme to support disadvantaged children during the festive season, while instilling practical lessons in compassion, leadership, and community service.

Headteacher Seth Korgah stated that the donation aligned with the school’s ‘Character First Education’ commitment, promoting good citizenship and service to humanity. “We are here with our widow’s mite as we have been doing every year. Our curriculum teaches children to be good neighbours and good citizens, and to help others,” he said.

Mr Korgah noted prior humanitarian efforts by learners in other parts of Ho municipality, Mepe during the floods, and recently at Madamfo Ghana Orphanage in Ho. Established in 2021, the school integrates Christian values to emphasize kindness and sacrifice to the needy.

“We want to put smiles on the faces of other children on admission at the hospital,” Mr Korgah added.
Final-year student Irene Nwogu said the donation aimed to share the joy and love of Christmas with ward children.

Nurse Manager Lucky Tautsi, who received the items, expressed gratitude and hoped for sustained collaboration to strengthen ties between the school and ward.
