AKISSS PTA donates bus to school

The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the Akim Swedru Senior High School (AKISSS) last weekend donated a brand-new 15-seater bus worth GH¢320, 000 to the institution to help solve the transport problem facing staff and students.

The Vice Chairman of the PTA, Maxwell Owusu, presented the keys of the vehicle together with valid documents from the State Insurance Company and the Driver Vehicle Licensing Authority to the Birim South District Director of Education, Henry Theodore Sintim, who, in turn, handed them over to the Headmaster of the institution, Eric Afari-Agyapong.

He explained that PTA members voluntarily paid special levies to purchase the vehicle.

PTA contribution

Mr Owusu said the donation was in response to an appeal by the school’s management to convey sick students referred by the school’s infirmary to hospitals.

He said the PTA had built two semi-detached bungalows to accommodate two members of staff, and that two more such bungalows were under construction.

Mr Owusu announced that the association had also rehabilitated the girls' dormitory block, which was in a deplorable state.

He advised PTA members not to default on their PTA dues to enable the association to fund more projects for the institution.

The headmaster was grateful to the PTA for its commitment to the institution's development.

He, however, appealed to the PTA to endeavour to provide more staff bungalows for a number of teachers to stay within the school to supervise students and also assist in reconstructing the broken school fence wall.

The district director of education praised the PTA for the gesture.

He advised the school's staff and students to take proper care of the bus.
