The clinics are sited at Atuobikrom, Omanekrom-Tweapease, Aworasa, Kwakyekrom, Adonkwanta, Anyansu, Adjena-Donor, Konkoney, Ponponya and Obenyemi.

They were funded under a $120,000 Japanese Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGHSP) facility.

Durbar

At a durbar held at Obenyemi in the Yilo Krobo municipality to inaugurate one of the water projects, the Counsellor of the Japanese Embassy, Mr Shigeru Umetsy, said improving access to safe water was a priority of the Japanese Government’s Economic Cooperation Policy in Ghana.

He expressed the hope that the provision of clean water would help ensure hygienic conditions at the epicentre clinics.

Mr Umetsy, who represented the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, commended THP-Ghana, the epicentre communities, the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), B. J. Water Drilling (the contractor), the district assemblies of the respective communities and the Ghana Health Service for collaborating to execute the projects.

The Country Director of THP-Ghana, Mr Samuel Afrane, thanked the Japanese Embassy for its assistance and advised residents of the communities to take responsibility for their own development.

Address

The acting Yilo Krobo Municipal Director of Health Services, Mrs Susana Akrofi Mante, thanked the embassy and THP-Ghana for the gesture.

The Eastern Regional Director of CWSA, Mr Gilbert Ayamgah, said the agency would provide the needed technical support to maintain the boreholes to ensure that they were long-lasting.

He appealed to the Japanese Embassy to consider supporting the provision of clean water in educational facilities, since many schools in Ghana lacked potable water, a situation which posed a serious threat to the health of schoolchildren.
