Binduri: Gunmen kill three, injure radio station manager in night attack

Three people, including two children, have been shot dead in a late-night gun attack at Sakpari, a village in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region.

The tragic incident, which occurred around 7pm, on Sunday [Oct 26, 2025], also left the Manager of a local radio station Maxx Empire FM, a Binduri-based radio station, George Bukari, injured in the hand.

Attackers invade family home

According to local sources, the unknown assailants stormed the home of the Maxx Empire FM Manager and opened fire on the occupants within the compound.

“The assailants were reportedly hiding in a burnt house near the victims’ residence. George Bukari had taken the two children to the bath house but went back to the backyard to pick up his sandals he had left behind, leaving the children and his uncle in the compound.

“It was when he was returning that the assailants began the attack, killing the two children and his uncle. Fortunately for him, the bullet that was targeted at him was blocked by a cow, which led to the cow’s death and caused the injury to his hand,” an opinion leader, Atiga Salam, told the Graphic Online in an interview.

The victims have been identified as an adult male and two children, one aged about 14 and the other about five years old, who is the son of the Maxx Empire FM Manager.

Mr. Salam explained that the attackers were reportedly two men on foot, believed to be civilians from a rival community within Binduri.

“They were on foot, not driving or riding. Those around could not defend themselves because they had no weapons’’, he said
The gunmen fled the scene before residents could respond.

Retaliatory burning of building

In what appears to be a reprisal act, a house at Aniisim community belonging to the Member of Parliament for the Binduri Constituency, Issifu Mahmoud, was set ablaze at dawn following the shooting.

“This morning, we woke up to the shocking realization that the MP’s house had been set on fire. I don’t think it was the same people who did the shooting that went and burnt the house, but maybe others who got angry and went to burn it,” Mr Salam said.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with the burning incident

Heightened tension in Binduri

The attack has reignited fears in Binduri, a district that has in recent years witnessed sporadic violence linked to the protracted Bawku conflict.

Residents say the killings have sent shockwaves through the area, prompting calls for increased police presence and swift investigations.

Authorities are yet to officially comment on the incident.

Community members have appealed for calm and urging the security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.
