Brong Ahafo calls for speedy works on regional theatre

The Brong Ahafo Regional Centre for National Culture (CNC) has called for speedy completion of ongoing construction works on the regional theatre. It said when finished, the building would make it possible for the region to host the much delayed National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFAC).

The region was selected to host the biannual national culture and arts festival in 2012 but could not do so because of the 2012 general election, the lack of funds, among others.

A representative of the regional CNC, Mr Prince Marfo Bona, made the call at a forum held to discuss the challenges facing the creative arts industry in the region.

The forum was organised by the Innovative Lab of the Fiapre Catholic University College of Ghana (CUCG) at the CNC in Sunyani. The occasion brought together musicians, filmmakers, actors, designers, painters and other artistes in the creative arts industry in the region.

Addressing the participants, Mr Bona urged them to use the event to develop solutions to the challenges facing the industry.

The Co-ordinator of Innovative Lab of the CUCG, Mr Edward Twum Anane, urged the participants to use the forum to also network.

He further called on the government to release funds to complete the Brong Ahafo Regional Theatre.

Participants in the forum identified disunity, lack of skills and inaccessibility to finance as the major challenges facing the industry in the region.

Artistes in the region were, therefore, encouraged to join any of the creative arts associations and promote unity and co-operation.

The participants appealed to financial institutions and the government to assist them with flexible financial packages to help grow the industry and create employment for the youth in the region.

They also appealed to the CUCG to organise workshops to train practitioners in creative arts on ways to manage their business, management their finances and deal with copyright issues.

Similar meetings are scheduled for Techiman and Atebubu.
