Citation

They were presented with a citation at a ceremony held in Tamale last Friday as part of activities to mark this year’s International Women’s Day organised by Camfed Alumni Association (CAMA), past beneficiaries of Camfed scholarship, with support from Camfed, on the theme: “ Pledge for Parity: Accelerate Gender Parity.”

Earlier, members of CAMA embarked on a procession on the Tamale-Bolga road to the venue of the ceremony to raise awareness of the need for all, both men and women, to work together to help achieve gender parity.

Pledge for parity

Speaking at the ceremony, the Programme Manager, Enterprise and Leadership Development at Camfed, Mrs Millicent Kaleem, called for a concerted effort from all and sundry to help achieve gender parity in all spheres of life in the country.

She said Camfed was already at the forefront working hard to help accelerate gender parity through its various interventions aimed at creating more educational opportunities for girls and empower young women to become leaders of change.

“Camfed is living the pledge for parity through our various interventions. However, to achieve global results we call on everyone, men and women to pledge  to take a concrete step to help achieve gender parity more quickly in order to help women and girls achieve their ambitions,’’ she stated.

The Queen mother of Bole, on behalf of those who were honoured, thanked Camfed for the recognition and the honour done them and pledged to contribute their quota towards the attainment of gender parity in the country.

A CAMA member, Ms Rashidatu Iddrisah, in an interview, said the day was to celebrate and honour all women, especially those recognised, for their role in promoting the welfare of girls and women.

Camfed operates in four regions in the country: the Northern, Upper East, Upper West and Central.
