He said the company’s support in the past years had helped to improve the livelihoods of some members of those communities, particularly in the area of job creation, where many of the people were employed by the company.

Sheikh Sharubutu expressed the appreciation when Zoomlion donated some food items to his outfit yesterday to support the upcoming Mawlid an-Nabi celebration at his residence at Fadama in Accra on Saturday.

The items included bags of rice, soft drinks, mineral water and an undisclosed amount of money.

About the celebrations

Mawlid an-Nabi is a special holiday for many in the Muslim faith celebrated to mark the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed.

It is usually held on the 12th day of Rabi al-Awwal, the fifth month in the Islamic calendar, and on this day Muslims make merry by focusing on the life and teachings of the Prophet Mohammed.

They sing songs and say special prayers. A special part of this remembrance is how the Prophet forgave even his bitterest enemies.

As with other Islamic holidays, Muslims also give to the poor and the needy in society on that day.

More support

Sheikh Sharubutu prayed for Allah’s blessings for the management of Zoomlion and called on the government to support the company in its endeavours.

He also appealed to individuals and organisations to emulate the gesture by Zoomlion by donating in any way they could towards the annual celebration.

Collaboration for job creation

Presenting the items, the Communications Manager of Zoomlion, Mr Robert Coleman, assured the Chief Imam of the company’s continued support to Muslims in Ghana.

He said apart from the items, the company would designate some of its workers to clean the venue for the event before, during and after the celebration.

He said Zoomlion would soon roll out some projects that would be executed in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Imam that would create more jobs for Muslims in the country.

“We want to have that solid relationship with the Chief Imam’s outfit  for our mutual benefit,” he said.
