The 187-kilometre road has been lying fallow due to the inability of the government to raise funds for the project.

The group has said it is ready to pre-finance the construction once it concludes all the necessary terms with the government.

The construction is expected to start within the next three months, as the investment partners have given the assurance that funding is ready and, therefore, the group only needs to speed up dialogue with the government on the necessary terms.

Led by the Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Mr Francis Ganyaglo, a team of contractors from Canada inspected the stretch from Have to Hohoe to assess the level of work to be done.

Technical details

Briefing them on the technical details of the project, the Volta Regional Director of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA), Mr Ernest Owusu, said the designs for the road were ready.

According to him, the stretch from Have to Dodi -Pepesu will be divided into three lots and all the roads will be built into the same specification of 7.3 metres carriageway, with 2.5 metres shoulders on both the left and right sides of the roads.

He, however, stated that certain realignment might be made when a proper design was made after all necessary arrangements.

The authority, he said, was ready to engage the group in constructing all the three lots. However, the group would also have the option of choosing any of the lots it would prefer to work on.

Assisting government

The Spokesperson for the group, Mr Samuel Suleman, said the group was prepared to assist the government to fulfil its Better Ghana agenda and that the project would create jobs for about 350,000 people and also shorten the distance from the Northern Region to Accra.

The consortium comprises investors from Canada, Ghana, France and Korea, and some of these business partners are currently engaged in other projects, which include the building of the regional sport complex, as well as hotels for the University of Health and Allied Sciences in Ho.

Mr Ganyaglo said the government was committed to fulfilling its promise on constructing the road and, therefore, would give the team all the necessary support.
