Foase youth demonstrate against bad roads
The youth of Foase in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti region have demonstrated against the poor state of roads in the district, especially the district capital, Foase.

The demonstrators also contended that the lack of infrastructure in the district was impeding development, thereby making life very difficult for the people.
They marched through the principal streets of the town to the premises of the assembly, where they presented a three-page petition which was received by the District Coordinating Director, Mr Samuel Gyedu-Nuako.

The demonstrators carried placards, some of which read ‘we need development’, ‘Atwima Kwanwoma needs development’ and ‘we are suffering,’ among others.
Among the issues raised in the statement signed by the secretary to the youth group calling itself the ‘concerned citizens of Foase,’ Mr Osei Bonsu explained the inability of the assembly to initiate development in the area.
It said the assembly since its inauguration six years ago had not carried out any major infrastructural and social development as was done in other districts in the country.
As a result of the poor state of roads in the district, most transport operators, including the Metro Mass Transit which used to ply Kumasi to Nweneso have withdrawn their services.
That, they said, had affected the movement of both people and foodstuff from the district to other parts of the region, particularly Kumasi.

They also noted that there was no hospital in the district so all serious health issues were referred to Kumasi and due to the poor nature of roads in the area; both patients and pregnant women suffered so much before having access to health care.
The angry youth said if nothing was done about the situation, then they would embark on the next line of action.
Contract Awarded
The District Coordinating Director, Mr Osei Bonsu, told the youth after receiving the petition that the road from Kwadaso-Ohwimase to Nweneso had been awarded on contract.
On the issue of other infrastructure, he said the roofing of the new assembly block had just been completed, adding that lack of funding was the major challenge confronting the development of infrastructure.
