On the issue of the destruction of water resources and vital ecosystems in Ghana by galamsey [illegal mining] activities, the European Union (EU) Ambassador, Rune Skinnebach recently visited the Atewa area in the Eastern Region to see at firsthand the excessive devastation caused by illegal mining.

The team observed destroyed forests in Atewa, polluted water, and perilous working conditions.
