GHABA lauded for promoting skills training
The wife of the Vice-President, Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur, has lauded the effort of the Ghana Hairdressers and Beauticians Association (GHABA) in promoting skills training and entrepreneurship in the country.

The move, she said, supported the government’s effort to provide solutions to graduate unemployment in the country, as well as reducing poverty.
Mrs Amissah-Arthur was speaking at the 11th mass graduation of apprentices trained by GHABA, in Accra on Friday, at which 206 students passed out after two years of training in the Greater Accra Region.
The graduands, aged 21 to 35, were drawn from Dansoman, Teshie-Nungua, Tabora, Osu, La, Taifa, Kokomlemle, Darkuman, Abeka, Adenta, Dodowa, Ayawaso and Mallam.
They were taken through courses such as chemical relaxing, hair braiding and hair styling.
Attitude is everything
She advised the graduands to take their jobs seriously and take pride in serving their clients while taking extra care of their tools and equipment.
“Each of you have been given skills for you to earn a living and to make you move on and not go hungry. You chose this profession so let the passion with which you entered it guide you along the way,” she said.
Mrs Amissah-Arthur also advised them to humble themselves and treat their clients with respect, in order to attract more customers, adding, “Your attitude to your clients is everything”.
Ensure standards
In her address, the Greater Accra Regional President of GHABA, Ms Tina Offei Yirenkyi, said among the major aims and objectives of the association was to ensure that operators in the industry worked in conformity with international ethics and standards and advised graduands to exhibit professionalism in the beauty industry.
She said there was the need to invest more in skills training in order to develop a sense of entrepreneurship among the youth to support economic growth.
Commenting on the theme, “Preparing the Youth towards Self sustaining and Fulfilling Jobs,” Ms Yirenkyi called on institutions to assist the government to create the necessary conditions for job creation.
Commitment to work
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, said training the youth in entrepreneurship through apprenticeship was common in all parts of the world, and Ghana could not be left out in the quest to make the youth more resourceful.
He also called on those who had the opportunity to start their own businesses to demonstrate the highest level of commitment and professionalism in order to boost the beauty sector and encourage more people to join the trade.
Students who performed exceptionally well during their practical and written exams were rewarded with various prizes for their hard work.
