Ada Traditional Council expresses concern over inaccurate media reports
The Ada Traditional Council in the Greater Accra Region has expressed concern about recent media publications regarding salt mining operations of Electrochem Ghana Limited.
In a statement, the council stated that those reports lacked factual accuracy and appeared to undermine the developmental progress in the Ada Songhor Lagoon area.

It said the narratives were orchestrated to advance the interests of a group it accused of undermining efforts by Electrochem Ghana Limited to rejuvenate the Songhor Lagoon.
“Electrochem, an investor in the region, has been at the forefront of developing the lagoon for sustainable salt mining, a project hailed by the council as vital to the area’s socio-economic advancement,” the statement said.
The council consequently cautioned the media and other entities against publishing “one-sided journalism” aimed at sowing seeds of discord within the community.
The statement emphasised that such actions jeopardised the livelihoods of the majority and benefited just a few.
It further criticised some individuals for their “inconsistent” stance regarding the Ada Songhor Lagoon area and Electrochem Ghana Limited.
It alleged that some actions, including influential individuals supporting news conferences organised by some persons in the Ada Songhor Lagoon area, contributed to community tensions.

The traditional council, therefore, warned such persons to desist from actions that could incite division, hinting at potential legal consequences for any further disruptions.
Other issues
The statement also addressed internal issues within the Ada Traditional Area, highlighting a decision taken on March 23, 2022, to restrain the Queenmother of the Terkperbiawe Clan, Naana Korlekie Korle II, from performing official duties.
The action, the statement said, was taken under Section 40 (4) of the Chieftaincy Act, 2008 (Act 759).
The council reiterated that any public statements from Naana Korle did not represent its official position.

Appeal against violence
The council further condemned all forms of violence among the people and urged law enforcement authorities to hold those responsible for the recent vandalism and assaults accountable.
It also called on stakeholders to resolve disputes through peaceful and lawful means, stressing the need to maintain unity in the Ada Traditional Area.
“The council remains steadfast in its commitment to the development and unity of Ada, and calls on all parties to respect its authority and contribute positively to the growth of the community,” the statement signed by the Paramount Chief of the Ada Traditional Area, Djetse Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku, said.
