Akuse Male Prison gets borehole

The Soul Revival and Outreach Ministry has provided a mechanised borehole for the Akuse Male Prison in the Eastern Region to address the facility’s water crisis.

The borehole, constructed by Inspired Water Company Limited, will provide a reliable source of water for both inmates and officers, who have, over the past two years, contended with erratic water supply at the facility.

The commissioning ceremony at the prison last Tuesday was attended by officials of the Ghana Prisons Service, members of the Soul Revival and Outreach Ministry and other guests.

At the commissioning, the Officer-in-Charge of the Akuse Male Prison, Assistant Director of Prisons (ADP) Roger Azanya, said the water crisis was identified as the most pressing issue at the facility when he assumed duty on July 7, 2025.

He said he was informed that the problem had persisted for two years due to narrow and blocked pipelines supplying water to the facility.

ADP Azanya said contact was made with two organisations, including the Soul Revival and Outreach Ministry, which showed commitment to support the facility.

“A few days later, an engineer from Inspired Water Company visited the prison to conduct an assessment and identified a suitable spot for drilling. On September 2, 2025, the team returned and successfully completed the project,” he said.

Appeal

While commending the Soul Revival Ministry for the assistance, ADP Azanya appealed for more support to improve infrastructure and healthcare at the facility.

“We need to expand the prison because this is an old structure constructed in 1911.

If we get external support, together with government assistance, it can be upgraded into a central prison,” he said.

He added that the correctional centre still needed medical supplies for inmates.

“We do not have enough drugs,” he said and appealed to the public to support with medical supplies to the facility.

Motivation

The President of the Soul Revival and Outreach Ministry, Evangelist Albert Amedzro, said the decision to undertake the project followed an earlier visit to the prison where the team observed the difficulty officers and inmates faced in accessing water.
