The General Manager of Asempa Publishers, a major Christian Publishing company under the Christian Council of Ghana, Emmanuel Amoo, has urged Christians to cultivate strong reading habits.
He said this practice would enable them to positively influence society and strengthen their faith.
Mr Amoo made the call during the launch of this year’s Christian Literature Week, organised by Asempa Publishers in Accra last Sunday.
In an interview with the Daily Graphic after the launch, Mr Amoo explained that this year's celebration, on the theme: Deepening our Walk with God: Embracing Christian Literature as a Tool for Spiritual Growth and Lasting Transformation, was to encourage Christians to study materials that strengthen their faith.
“When Christians read books, they are able to lead meaningful lives that impact the nation and their individual lives,” he said.
Mr Amoo, however, added that Christians had to be cautious of the genres of books that they read.
"As Christians, we have to read books that teach values such as love, leadership and knowing the will of God. This is crucial for the impact we make in society," he added.
Promoting the word
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Ecumenical Convention Board of the Christian Council of Ghana, Koku Anyidoho, said the Christian Literature Week reinforced the centrality of the Bible in Christian life and national development.
He described the Bible as “the manual of life,” explaining that it provided divine direction for individuals and nations alike.
Mr Anyidoho said, “It is in reading and consuming the word of God that the Holy Spirit ministers to us.
Without reading the manual, we cannot understand the operating system of life.” He urged Ghanaians, especially leaders, to uphold the God factor in nation building and allow biblical values to guide governance and public service.
He added that the upcoming Ecumenical Convention, scheduled for November, formed part of efforts to reposition the Christian Council as a strong prophetic voice ahead of its centenary celebration in 2029.
Gratitude
The Board Chairman of Asempa Publishers, Daniel Kwarteng, expressed gratitude to the Christian community for supporting the publishing house in fulfilling its mission of providing relevant Christian literature for over five decades.
“We are always encouraged by your continuous support in helping us fulfil our mission of reaching out to the Christian community in Ghana with literature that addresses their changing needs and complements what our ministers preach in the pulpits, "he said.
