District Assemblies Common Fund donates generator set to Korle Bu

The he District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) has donated a generator set to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital as part of the centenary celebration of the hospital.

The 500 KVA generator has a standby capacity of 550KVA, which can support power supply to three critical departments of the hospital, namely the Plastic Surgery and Burns Centre, Maternity Block and the Child Health Department.

The Administrator of the DACF, Harry Yamson, made the donation to the hospital in Accra last Sunday, and it was received by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the hospital, Dr Yakubu Seidu Adam.

Mr Yamson said the donation was made following a request for support received from the hospital to help them improve on overall healthcare delivery.

“And as you know, the DACF is the constitutional body that is mandated to ensure that critical socio-economic services, including health care, are made available to all Ghanaians throughout the country. Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, being the premier health institution, therefore, is deserving of such help; hence, this donation,” he explained.

He said the DACF was more than happy to step in and provide the help required for the hospital, adding that he hoped that the hospital could safely look after all its clients with this donation.

Old generator

Dr Adam said the hospital used to have a generator that provided power supply to those departments, but because it was very old, over 15 years old, maintaining it became a challenge, and that was why they wrote to the DACF to seek help.

He expressed his gratitude to the team from the DACF, including the administrator, for responding timely manner to the hospital’s request.

He said as a 100-year-old facility, the hospital had a lot of renovation work and facelifts to do to ensure that the facility was accessible to all and conducive to the population.

He, therefore, appealed to corporate bodies to support them in the renovation works and facelift of the hospital.

He touted the hospital’s quality human resources that was able to provide the best health care one could think of.

Duke Adukonu from Cubo Solutions, suppliers of the generator, said his company was providing the hospital with a two-year warranty on the machine and would be ready to respond promptly to any call for assistance should any issue arise.

He thanked all the stakeholders who donation of the generator set possible.
