Dome-Kwabenya MP donates to support fresh SHS 1 students

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome-Kwabenya constituency, Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, has donated GH¢150,000 to 150 brilliant, needy students in the constituency.

This is to support their transition into senior high school, reaffirming her commitment to ensuring that no child is left behind due to financial constraints.

The donation was aimed at easing the financial burden on parents and helping students acquire essential items such as uniforms, school supplies, and other educational materials needed for their studies.

Transformation

Speaking at the donation ceremony, Ms Akurugu said the gesture was a modest but meaningful intervention aimed at empowering young people in her constituency to pursue their educational dreams.

She encouraged the beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunities ahead, remain disciplined, and work hard.

“Your journey is just beginning. Stay disciplined, study hard, and always remember that your community is behind you. You represent the present and future of Dome-Kwabenya and of Ghana,” she said.

She emphasised her belief in the transformative power of education and the potential of the youth to change the story of families and communities in Dome-Kwabenya.

“The potential of our youth and the promise of a higher future for Dome-Kwabenya can break barriers and change the story of families and communities.

As a Member of Parliament, I remain committed to ensuring that no child of Dome-Kwabenya is left behind simply because of financial challenges. Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, to dream, and to succeed,” she added.

She underscored that education remained the foundation of national progress.

“When we invest in our children, we invest in the country’s destiny. May this small act of support ignite big dreams.

May our young people soar higher than we can even imagine, and may Dome-Kwabenya continue to shine as a constituency of hope, opportunity and shared purpose,” she concluded.

Initiative

Ms Akurugu further explained that the initiative was part of her broader efforts to promote education and improve school infrastructure in the constituency.

“When I assumed office as the MP for Dome-Kwabenya, I visited the Municipal Director of Education and toured schools to identify the challenges facing our students.

Dome-Kwabenya is one of the largest constituencies in the country, but in terms of infrastructure, we are lagging behind,” she said.

She noted that prior to this donation, she had distributed mathematical sets, exercise books, pens and pencils to students preparing for exams.

Support

The Ga East Municipal Director of Education, Eric Sey, explained that the selection process was based on academic performance and financial need.

“We considered students who are both brilliant and needy.

The head teachers, supervisors, and circuit officers collaborated to ensure fairness and transparency.

Initially, we are focused on public schools, but as the initiative grows, private schools will also be included,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Priscilla Edotom Anku expressed appreciation to the MP and other stakeholders for their generosity and commitment to improving education in the municipality.
