German President arrives Sunday for 3-day visit

The President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, will arrive in Ghana tomorrow, Sunday, November 2, 2025, to begin a three-day state visit aimed at deepening the long-standing bilateral relations between the two countries.

The visit, which is at the invitation of President John Dramani Mahama, is expected to focus on strengthening cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, technology and development.

According to a programme released by the Government Communications Ministry, the official engagements would commence in Accra on Monday, November 3.

President Steinmeier will be welcomed with a full military Guard of Honour inspection at the Forecourt of the Presidency, the Jubilee House.

Following the ceremonial welcome, the two leaders will hold a closed-door meeting, after which they will lead their respective delegations for broader bilateral talks in the Credentials Room.

A State Luncheon will later be held in honour of the visiting German President and his delegation at the Presidential Banquet Hall.

Tour trip

Later in the day, President Steinmeier is scheduled to visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park for a guided tour.

In a symbolic gesture, he will lay a wreath at the tomb of Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

His itinerary also includes an interactive session with young Ghanaian Information Technology specialists, underscoring the focus on technology and innovation.

The day will conclude with a reception hosted at the German Ambassador’s residence in Accra.

Manhyia visit

On the third and final day of his visit, President Steinmeier will travel to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, where he will perform a sod-cutting ceremony for a development project at the Kumasi Technical Institute.

The German President is also expected to interact with the Vice-Chancellor, staff and alumni of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), further highlighting the educational and scientific partnership between Ghana and Germany.

His engagements in Kumasi will include a visit to the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research and a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace.

Departure

President Steinmeier is scheduled to depart Ghana on the evening of Tuesday, November 4.

In a statement, the Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said the visit “underscores the strong and enduring partnership between Ghana and Germany, and is expected to open a new chapter of enhanced cooperation for mutual benefit”.

Analysts anticipate that the high-level visit will yield significant outcomes, particularly in boosting German investment in Ghana's burgeoning technology and manufacturing sectors.
