Gomoa Wassa Gyasehene constructs 7 boreholes for communities
The Gyasehene of Gomoa Wassa in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region, Nana Kwesi Essel Okyeahene, has constructed seven boreholes for five communities in the area following the water crises that erupted due to the pollution of River Ayensu by galamsey activities.
The mechanised boreholes were constructed for the people of Gomoa Wassa, Gomoa Nkran, Gomoa Akwakrom, Gomoa Penanko and Gomoa Nduem (tree inside), all in the Gomoa West District.
Districts
More than 10 districts in the Central Region are experiencing water crises after illegal miners in the Eastern Region polluted the River Ayensu, which serves the Agona Kwanyarko Water Works.
During the inauguration, the Gyasehene of Gomoa Wassa, who doubles as the Director of Young Executive and Onua Francis Schools, Nana Kwesi Essel Okyeahene, expressed his emotional response after witnessing the hardships faced by community members in accessing water following the shutdown of the treatment plant at Agona Kwanyarko by the Ghana Water Company.
Nana Kwesi Okyeahene also said he has constructed public toilets for the Gomoa Wasa community and provided other social amenities for them.
Mentality
He, therefore, called on Ghanaians to abandon the old mentality that “witches will kill you if you develop your community.”
The District Chief Executive for Gomoa West, Mohammed Alahji Kassim, commended Nana Okyeahene for supporting the communities in these difficult times.
The DCE expressed surprise that Nana Okyeahene had constructed the boreholes, saying the district assembly had planned to drill 10 boreholes in the area, and if a chief had constructed seven, he deserved praise.
