Mensah, who was pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Biotechnology, had just completed his final semester exams and was looking forward to his project defence, a crucial milestone in his academic journey.

According to reports, Mensah had returned home on Monday, August 26, after finishing his exams, and visited a friend at a galamsey site in Manso, a nearby town, the following day.

Heroic attempt

While at the site, a gentleman accidentally fell into a mining pit, and in a heroic attempt to rescue him, Mensah himself fell into the pit and lost his life.

The news of Mensah's passing has sent ripples of sadness through social media, with many Ghanaians expressing their condolences and paying tribute to his memory.

His coursemates and friends remembered him as a bright and dedicated student who had worked hard to reach the final stage of his academic journey.

Unemployment

The incident has also sparked a broader conversation about the high rate of youth unemployment in the country, which many believe drives young people to engage in risky activities such as galamsey in search of livelihoods.

Netizens are calling for urgent action to address this critical issue and prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.

As the university community comes to terms with the loss of one of its own, tributes continue to pour in for Patrick Mensah, a young life cut short in a tragic accident.

His memory will live on, and his story will serve as a reminder of the need for collective action to ensure a safer and more secure future for young people.
