Latex Foam supports University of Ghana

Latex Foam has given GH¢20,000 financial support to the Students Financial Aid Office at the University of Ghana to sustain the company's commitment to academic work.

It is the latest in 10 successive years of support by the celebrated foam manufacturer towards the welfare and academic pursuit of particularly vulnerable students in the university.

The gesture, the company said, aligned with its corporate social responsibility on education and health.

The cash donation was presented at a brief ceremony at the office of the Pro-Vice Chancellor for Academic and Students Affairs of the University of Ghana, Professor Gordon Awandare.

It was to bolster the Students Financial Aid Office’s efforts in providing support to brilliant, needy continuing students.

Presentation

The Head of Corporate Communications of Latex Foam, Gifty E. Appiah, who presented the cheque for the amount to the university, said the company found it a necessary venture to invest in the education of the nation’s youth for the sake of its development.

Mrs Appiah said Latex Foam remained committed to supporting students, noting that management believed investing in youth and students was one of the best ways to give back to society.

She said the company would continue to open its doors for collaboration with the university in various ways to achieve mutually beneficial objectives.

Prof.  Awandare expressed gratitude to Latex Foam for honouring its promise to support the Students Financial Aid Office and for its ongoing commitment to students’ welfare on campus.

He said the gesture amounted to a huge relief for many students who struggled to pay their fees.

For some of those students, he said, the struggles were not confined to fee payment, and even after struggling to pay their fees, they still had to contend with how to feed themselves.

“You can’t count the number of stories of students going without meals,” he said.

“Students come to tell you about some of their friends going without meals, and it’s so sad,” he further lamented.

Latex Foam's relationship with the University of Ghana spans nearly 25 years of close cooperation in mutually beneficial projects.

The company has made significant contributions to the higher learning institution over the period, including the construction and renovation of the Aid Laba Hall about 20 years ago.

The company has also provided internship opportunities for students, further solidifying its role as a vital partner in the institution's development.
