Ntiamoah Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) committed to health promotion and education development, has organised a two-day free general health screening for the Akyem Adausena and Hweakwae communities in the Birim North District.
With support from health personnel of the Birim North District Health Directorate and the Akyem Adausena Health Centre, over 300 people were examined for malaria, diabetes, tuberculosis, blood pressure, Hepatitis B and breast cancer.
After the team had counselled the participants, those found to have the ailments were referred to the New Abirem Government Hospital and Adausena Health Centre for medical treatment.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Programmes Manager of Ntiamoah Foundation, Williams Sarpong, said the NGO had been organising free health screening for two selected communities every year because they saw the welfare of the people in the district as paramount.
He urged those referred to health facilities for medical treatment to adhere to the advice in order to be healthy and carry out their normal duties.
Commendation
Mr Sarpong commended the management of Birim North District Health Directorate for offering practical support to the NGO in all its health promotion activities.
The District Health Promotion Officer, Augustine Offei, who was the leader of the health team, was grateful to Ntiamoah Foundation for its commitment to the health of the people in the district.
He advised people in the area to take advantage of all health screening programmes to know their health status and seek medical treatment.
Mr Offei also urged the people to be conscious of their diet so that they remain healthy at all times.
He assured that the District Health Directorate would always be prepared to offer the needed assistance to the foundation in all its health programmes to ensure their success.
