Philanthropist donates towards Kpong maternity home project
A philanthropist resident in Accra, Agnes Carboo, has donated 850 bags of cement at a total cost of GH¢93,500 towards the maternity home project at Kpong in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality in the Eastern Region.

The donation by Madam Carboo was as a result of an appeal made by the Manya Krobo Divisional Queenmother at Kpong, Manye Maku I. The presentation of the cement by Madam Carboo was in addition to an amount of GH¢10,000 she presented earlier towards the same project at the initial stage.
Manye Maku appealed, especially to the Ministry of Health (MoH), the Ghana Health Service (GHS), organisations, institutions, corporate organisations, individuals and civil society organisations to help them complete the community project that had been started.
The 60-bed one-storey project started by the queenmother and the Ensign Global College, among other donors, has many rooms for delivery, offices for the nurses, resting rooms for the patients, delivery wards and nurses’ resting rooms, among others.

Presenting the 850 bags of cement to the queenmother and the project committee members in Kpong last Thursday, Madam Carboo stated that as a woman she was touched by the plight of women at Kpong, especially during labour and delivery, hence the need to support for early completion of the project.
“Right from the word go, when the queenmother, Manye Maku, made the appeal to me towards the project, I became excited and decided to be part of it. We were all in one way or the other delivered by women with its attendant challenges. They, therefore, need a more comfortable place and serene atmosphere to deliver their babies.
“Many women lost their lives in the course of their delivery, as a result of the lack of proper maternity homes to take good care of them,” she said, stressing that such incidents were unfortunate and painful to say the least.
Madam Carboo entreated all who were touched to also come on board to support the maternity home project as a worthy cause.

Manye Maku who received the cement on behalf of the project committee, was very grateful to Madam Carboo for her philanthropic gesture for the project which when completed would save many women from untimely death during their labour and when delivering.
She said apart from the cement, the committee needed iron rods, wood as well as physical cash to pay workers and therefore continued with the appeal for all and sundry to come to their aid in order to complete the project on time for use.
“I am overwhelmed, surprised, dumfounded and above all very flabbergasted for this huge donation from a single philanthropist. We need such people in society who will have human feeling and do things for humanity wholeheartedly.”
