SDA Mountain View Conference marks 10th anniversary
The Mountain View Ghana Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church has marked its 10th year with one of the largest conferences in Agona Ashanti.
The Mountain View Ghana Conference of the SDA Church is the fastest growing Adventist conference in Ghana, having increased in membership from its initial 17,000 in 2015 to the current 38,000.
The Mountain View Ghana Conference comprises 228 branches of the church, made up of 143 organised churches and 85 companies, with the headquarters in Agona Ashanti in the Ashanti Region.
It is formed by 27 districts with a standing work force of 65 officers.
The 10th anniversary was on the theme: "Celebrating A Decade of God's Leadership".
In an address, the Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra, Dr Kofi Koduah Sarpong, emphasised the importance of mission, referencing John Scott’s words that:
"The church exists by mission, as a firm exists by learning".
He urged the conference to deepen its evangelism efforts by utilising digital platforms, and to promote small group ministries and community service.
Invest in youth
Dr Sarpong further stressed the need to invest in the youth to safeguard the future of society.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, assured the church of President John Dramani Mahama's support, and directed local government authorities in the Ashanti Region to collaborate with SDA churches in their areas in developmental efforts.
He donated GHC10,000 to support the anniversary.
A flag bearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party and former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, urged the church to help to create employment for the teeming youth.
He said given the number of youth within the conference, the church needed to create employment for them so they could contribute to the growth of the church.
He donated GH¢120,000 and four computers to support the conference's 10th anniversary.
Council’s pledge
The President of the Agona Traditional Council, Nana Gyapa Ameyaw, pledged the council's continued support for the SDA Church, citing the long-standing relationship.
The Ministerial Secretary of the West-Central African Division of the Mountain View Ghana Conference, Pastor Dr Kwame Kiwanin Boakye, urged members to hold on to their faith, emphasising that no one could tell when Christ would come.
Outlining the conference's plans for the next decade, the President of the Mountain View Ghana Conference, Pastor Rockson Kwadwo Amoah, said they would partner the government and non-governmental organisations to create income-generating businesses for members.
Highlighting the success of the conference, he thanked the leadership of the worldwide SDA Church for its vision and innovation for members and the world as a whole, saying within 10 years they had acquired their own headquarters and doubled church membership,
The conference honoured members who had supported the church over the past decade, recognising their dedication and commitment to the faith.
