Govt dismisses claims of halting payments and recruitment, reaffirms statutory approvals
The outgoing government’s Transition Team has refuted claims that all ongoing payments and recruitment processes have been referred to the Transition Committee, urging the public to disregard such reports.
During its second meeting on December 13, 2024, held at the Accra International Conference Centre, the Transition Team clarified its position, emphasizing that only specific allegations of illegality regarding payments or recruitment would be reviewed by the Transition Committee.

A statement issued by Madam Fatimatu Abubakar, Spokesperson of the Government Transition Team, said the Committee reaffirmed that “all recruitment processes and payments had received the approval of the relevant statutory bodies and had not been proven to be illegal.”
The statement added, “Kindly disregard any statements purporting to indicate that the Committee has taken a decision to the effect that all ongoing payments and recruitment should be referred to the Transition Team as same does not reflect the records of the meeting.”
Commitment to a seamless transition
With the government’s term set to end at midnight on January 6, 2025, the Transition Team reassured Ghanaians of its commitment to ensuring a smooth handover to the incoming administration on January 7, 2025.
The meeting resulted in several key resolutions, including the establishment of six additional Sub-Committees to handle specific areas:
1. Finance and Economy
2. Energy and Natural Resources
3. Legal and Governance
4. Infrastructure
5. Interior/Public Safety
6. Social Sector
The Sub-Committees will include three nominees each from the outgoing and incoming governments. The Head of Civil Service, Head of Local Government Service, and Cabinet Secretary will provide support as required.

Handing over notes and collaboration
The statement directed that handing over notes be submitted to Sub-Committee Chairs immediately to enable them to begin their work. Initial reports from these committees are expected within a week.
Additionally, outgoing ministers, heads of agencies, and technical staff will be invited to assist Sub-Committees during discussions of their sectoral handover notes.
