An Immigration officer has been killed while another is critically wounded following an attack at the Gbintiri checkpoint in the East Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region.
The victim has identified Assistant Immigration Control Officer II (AICOII) Rafiq Mohammed.
The incident, occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Friday [Oct 3, 2025].
The injured immigration officer has also been identified as AICOII Oppong Daniel. He sustained severe gunshot wounds.
He is receiving emergency care at the Baptist Medical Centre at Nalerigu while the body has been deposited at the same facility morgue.
An AK-47 shell and a Ghana Immigration Service rifle with registration number GH/GIS/HQACN 668516-1646 were retrieved from the scene, indicating the attackers might have targeted the officers while they were on duty.
The North East Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Robert Anabiik Anmain has confirmed the incident to Graphic Online and said a full-scale investigation is underway.
He indicated the police has intensified surveillance to track down those behind the heinous act and bring them to justice.
