
Police arrest two suspects involved in Omanjor killing
The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the violence that erupted at the Omanjor Chief’s Palace during the Homowo Festival on Saturday, August 30, 2025.
The suspects, identified as Christian Saka Ahianyevi, 35, a private security officer, and Newton Alotey, 26, a dispatch rider, were picked up on August 30 and 31, respectively, following an intelligence-led operation by the Accra Regional Police Command and the Special Support Unit from the National Headquarters.
The arrests follow their suspected roles in the violent clashes, which claimed three lives and left several others injured.
During the operation, police retrieved 18 spent BB cartridges from Newton Alotey, while Christian Saka Ahianyevi was found in possession of a locally manufactured pistol, a cutlass, and other exhibits. All items have since been secured as evidence.
The two suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations. Meanwhile, security has been reinforced in the affected communities to maintain calm.
The Regional Police Command has urged all factions and residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement. It further appealed to the public to volunteer credible information on the whereabouts of other suspects by contacting the police emergency numbers 18555 or 191.
