Potable water for Amoma community

The people of Amoma in the Kintampo District are to benefit from a GH¢215,300 mechanised water project. Under the initiative of World Vision Ghana (WVG) and the Kintampo South District Assembly, the project is expected to provide potable water for the Amoma Health Centre as well.

Currently, the health centre has no water supply system and staff rely on borehole water in the community to attend to patients.

The sod-cutting ceremony for the start of the project coincided with the commissioning of a borehole for the Amoma community.

While the World Vision will provide GH¢195, 800.00 out of the total cost, the district assembly will complement it with GH¢12, 000.00 in terms of technical supervision and labour from members of the community.

The system will also be extended to the community where three overhead tanks will be constructed at vantage locations to serve some identified groups.

The chairman of the Advisory Council for WVG, Dr Adelaide Kastner, urged the community to take good care of the water project to ensure that it lasts longer.

“Observation shows that in most communities in Ghana after boreholes have been drilled, communities do not give attention to their maintenance. As such, they break down within a few years and people go back to fetch water from polluted sources,” she said.

The engineer in charge of the project, Mr Kofi Asante, said the initial plan of drilling a mechanised borehole for the health centre had to be changed when it was detected that there was enough underground water that could produce 150 litres per second.

Nana Baffoe Bim, Tutuasehene of Amoma, on behalf of the people, thanked WVG for its continuous support to the development and well-being of the people

of Amoma.

He pledged the support of the chiefs and people for all the activities of the organisation in the community to ensure its success.
