Safety programme for construction workers launched
Safety programme designed to ensure the protection of workers in the construction sector has been launched in Accra.
Dubbed, “The Safety Campaign Project”, the programme, which would be organised twice every year, is expected to sensitise workers to the importance of safety.
The programme is being spearheaded by Bouygues Company Limited, a subsidiary of Bouyges Batiment International, an Accra-based construction firm.
Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the Project Manager, Mr Benoit Longuet, explained that workers in the construction field faced numerous challenges that hampered their operations.
Those challenges, he said, if not properly dealt with, would become a setback to the development of the construction sector in Ghana.
According to Mr Longuet, in order to ensure safety on its sites, the company had installed safety systems on a number of equipment, including tower cranes, mobile cranes, wheel loaders and tipper trucks. He explained that the programme was aimed at achieving a zero accident rate on the construction sites.
Communication
In a presentation made on his behalf ,the Chairman and Chief Executive of Bouyges Batiment International, Mr Olivier-Marie Racin, expressed discontent about how people no longer engagedm in proper communication in the 21st century. However, he said that the safety campaign would help workers develop new and modern forms of communication about safety methods on construction sites .
Mr Racine believed that with an efficient communication plan, the worker would be able to carry out the safety measures to reduce fatal injuries on sites.
