Superwoman Award on Mother’s Day

The fourth edition of the Superwoman Award would come off this Sunday, May 13, at the Event Haven at the Trade Fair, La.The award is a project organised by Jandel Limited to celebrate and recognise outstanding women who have made an impact on society.

The award is climaxed on every Mother’s Day to reaffirm the belief that every woman is a mother to society and the world as a whole. 

The Chief Executive Officer of Jandel Limited, Ms Afi Amoro, said the pivotal role of being a mother is still the divine mission assigned to women alone.

“They are not inferior to men and are capable of sharing all the responsibilities of life. This is why we love to celebrate those imparting greatly to our society.”

Ms Amoro stated that as part of the award, the Superwoman project would present some of the proceeds from the event to help the Autism Awareness Care and Training Centre (AACT).

Touching on the awardees for this year, she mentioned five women  —  Nana Oye Lithur, Ms Joyce Aryee, Nana Aba Anamoah, Mrs Theresa Ayaode and Madam Imoro Muniratu popularly known as Auntie Muni Waakye.

“Our awardees were chosen by a panel who evaluated their achievements both privately and socially, their impact on the society, their contribution to the development of the Ghanaian economy and the nation at large,” she explained.

Some of the past recipients of the award include Gifty Anti, a renowned journalist, Joyce Ababio (Joyce Ababio College of Creative Design), Mrs Judith Ellen Awuah-Darko ( JEAD Foundation), Rev Mrs Gifty Lamptey (Sildalco), Kalsoume Sinare and Lydia Forson both actresses.

The event which is ticketed would have in attendance, Gifty Osei, Joe Mettle, Azonto Twins. In the past, the late Papa Yankson had graced the occasion however, with his demise his son Silas Yankson and the Kings Band would be there to dish out some highlife tunes.

There would be a lunch buffet and surprise souvenirs for guests. 

Ms Joyce Aryee

Auntie Joyce as she is affectionately called is one of the accomplished women in the country. She is a highly disciplined and self-motivated woman of substance.

She was one time a Minister of State and the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines and the first woman to head an African Chamber of Mines.

Auntie Joyce draws her experience from over 40 years of service to the nation, dealing with a wide range of issues including environmental protection and public relations.

She is currently the Executive Director of the Salt and Light Ministries. Her Ministry aims at motivating, inspiring and encouraging people to live an effective, productive and practical Christian lives.

She was awarded Companion of the Order of the Volta, Ghana (CV) in 2006. She was adjudged the CIMG Marketing Woman of the year in 2007. Auntie Joyce is also an experienced scriptwriter and a graduate of the University of Ghana, Ghana’s foremost university.

She also holds a Post Graduate certificate in Public Administration from Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

Nana Oye Lithur

Nana Oye Lithur is a Human Rights lawyer with 25 years’ experience of practice. As the former Minister of Gender Children and Social Protection, she focused on building strong systems and institutions for gender equality, child rights and social protection.

She is a Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Ghana Institute of Management and Public  Administration. She was also the Chair of the Conference of West African Ministers of Gender and Social Protection/Development.

One of her major achievements was the establishment of the Ghana Household Registry and adoption of five key policies and eight laws including the Affirmative Action Bill for Gender Equality.

Prior to being appointed Minister, she founded the Human Rights Advocacy Centre and was the Africa Regional Coordinator of the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative.

In 2013, Nana Oye was named the fourth Most Influential African Woman by the UK Guardian newspaper.

She received the Vera Chirwa Award for Human Rights in Africa in 2007 from the University of Pretoria Centre for Human Rights. She was appointed one of the 100 Global Champion torchbearers for women’s rights by the Danish Government in 2008.

Nana Oye holds an LLB from the University of Ghana, and an LLM from the University of Pretoria, South Africa.

Nana Aba Anamoah

Nana Aba is arguably one of the most famous personalities on TV in Ghana. She is a beacon wherever she goes, championing seeming controversial topics and making them relatable and interesting.

She has won the hearts of many and gathered multiple awards under her belt in various years, such as TV Personality of the Year, Ghana Journalist Association News Reporter of the Year, TV News Anchor of the Year, Radio and TV Personality (RTP) of the Year (2017), among others.

Nana Aba is a powerful female media personality and a role model to many upcoming journalists and media students nationwide.

Madam Imoro Muniratu (Auntie Muni)

Madam Imoro Muniratu is best known as Auntie Muni. She is a woman whose name in Accra has been linked with ‘waakye’ for the past 20 years and counting.

Waakye is a northern delicacy made with rice and brown/black eyed beans and served with black pepper sauce and other accompaniments and garnishing.

Auntie Muni operates one of the most famous and popular food stalls in Accra. The spot is an open cafe by the roadside at Cantonments which only operates on weekends.

Renowned for her delicious dishes and welcoming personality, Auntie Muni's food stall has attracted a wide range of famous patrons, including ex-Presidents, politicians and celebrities in Ghana.

Using her business, she has been able to support many people, both family and friends, through direct employment, education and entrepreneurship.

She has contributed to the education of about 15 children up to the tertiary level in universities such as Ashesi, KNUST, UDS and University of Ghana, Legon. Her beneficiaries include bankers, IT professionals and entrepreneurs.

Auntie Muni turned a simple meal into a booming business and its ripple effect has empowered a large section of her society.

She is passionate about women in entrepreneurship and personally champions formal education to all and sundry within her community.

Mrs Theresa  Ayaode

She is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Charter House Productions, West Africa, which has been in existence since 2000. Her outfit has built a strong and vibrant brand that has immensely contributed to shaping the events and entertainment landscape in Ghana.

Under her leadership as the CEO for the past 18 years, Charter House has built a public events portfolio, including the Ghana Music Awards, Night of 1000 Laughs, Music Series and many more.

Other corporate events such as product launches, conferences, seminars, exhibitions, banqueting, awards nights, concerts and experiential marketing activations are all under the umbrella of this multi-talented lady.

Her mantra for her organisation is to deliver a much-talked-about experience which will forever leave an indelible mark on the minds of all who witness it.

Her handiworks are associated with topmost brands such as Unilever, Vodafone, MTN, TIGO, Airtel, Coca Cola, PWC Ghana, British Council, GGBL, among others.

She worked previously as a Sales Manager at Luv FM and as the Promotions Manager at Joy FM between 1996 and 1999. She attended the University of Ghana and graduated with a degree in Psychology.
