On February 11, some unidentified men in a taxi shot at the Ford cross country vehicle of Nana Gyasi Mensah on the main road of the town.
Earlier, some anonymous persons had threatened to shed blood in the area.

Fortunately for the chief, the gunshot missed him by inches but broke the back side glass and grazed  the neck of Mr Dominic Dankwa, who was in the front passenger seat.

The victim has been treated and discharged.

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Asokwa District Police Commander, Superintendent Rev. Dr Nana Nyamekye Adane-Ameyaw, said the incident happened when a taxi with four assailants in it drove at top speed, overtook Nana Gyasi Mensah’s vehicle and slowed down.

Oblivious of the danger ahead, he attempted to overtake the taxi in his bid to enter the main Obuasi-Kumasi road, when he heard gunshots only to realise that the one sitting beside him had been hit.

The bullets went through the side windscreen of the chief’s car, penetrated the seat and grazed Mr Dankwa’s neck.

It is believed that the attempted assassination was in connection with land disputes that had travelled through the High Court, the Appeals Court and the Supreme Court.
