Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings marks 10 years of health screening outreach programmes

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Klottey Korle, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has marked a decade of commitment to healthcare in her constituency with health screening.

This year marked the 10th anniversary of the MP’s annual health screening outreach programmes, which has become a beacon of hope for many residents in the Klottey-Korle Constituency.

The health screening, which took place at Kinkawe at Osu, saw over 500 residents partaking in the exercise.

The health screening exercise offered a range of services, including vital checks such as blood pressure, malaria tests and blood sugar level checks.

Residents also went through screening for infectious diseases such as hepatitis and HIV, with referrals for those who test positive.

Eye tests to check for cataracts, eye pressure and visual acuity, with complimentary reading glasses for those who need them, as well as free medication based on their diagnosis were given to participants.

Breast cancer awareness

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Dr Agyeman-Rawlings said the health screening also provided opportunity for breast checks and educating women on how to perform self-examinations.

This initiative, she said, aimed to promote early detection and reduce the stigma associated with breast cancer.

“As part of the exercise, we are taking the opportunity to also educate our people especially the women about self-examination for earl detection and treatment of breast cancer,” she said.

The legislator said the health screening event was designed to be a one-stop shop, providing comprehensive healthcare services to attendees.

“The goal is to ensure that people don't have to go elsewhere to buy medication, except in cases where referral to a tertiary centre is necessary.

This exercise has a significant impact on the lives of many residents,” she stated.

Cybersecurity awareness

Dr Agyeman-Rawlings, who doubles as the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Select on Security and Intelligence, also used the opportunity to educate constituents on cybersecurity.

She urged the public to beware of fraudsters impersonating her on social media and committing cybercrimes.

She explained that scammers hiding behind fake account were allegedly reaching out to people on social media, asking for money in exchange for recruitment into security services or other jobs.

She urged the public to exercise caution and avoid engaging individuals asking for money online.
