Graphic Clinic, MedGraph Pharmacy hold free health screening

Graphic Clinic, a subsidiary of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), and its joint venture partner, MedGraph Compound Pharmacy & Laboratory, have organised a free health screening exercise for the people of Adabraka and its environs in Accra.

Patients were screened for malaria, haemoglobin (Hb), sugar levels, blood pressure and other health conditions, alongside receiving free consultation and drugs at yesterday’s event.

The exercise, a corporate social responsibility of the GCGL and MedGraph, has been run for years.

A medical officer, Dr Isaac Obeng Gyasi, said the exercise was targeted at providing an opportunity for people, especially those who could not afford frequent medical check-ups due to financial constraints, to have access to medical care.

“It is important that once in a while, once every few months, the clinic is able to offer such a screening programme,” he said, adding that it provided an avenue for early detection, management and treatment of serious and sometimes chronic diseases.

Screening

The General Manager of MedGraph Compound Pharmacy & Laboratory, Mr Matthew Kweku Arkutu Miller, said the screening was also meant to associate the Graphic Clinic and MedGraph Pharmacy brands with the people of the community more closely and to also create awareness of the common non-communicable diseases.

The Corporate Communications Officer of GCGL, Ms Grace Akua Mensah, told the Daily Graphic that she was excited about the successful outcome of the screening given what she called “the impressive turnout of people” to be screened.

She stressed the fact that the screening was a social responsibility of the organisation to the community which had hosted the head office of the company for decades, and added that the annual exercise was a reciprocal gesture in appreciation of the support of the people to the company.

“We want people to be comfortable accessing healthcare services at the Graphic Clinic so anyone with health issues can pass by and obtain such service,” she said.

Participation

A participant, Ms Margaret Maafo, said she heard about the health screening exercise from a friend and decided to take part for the first time because she was feeling unwell at the time.

She expressed gratitude to Graphic Clinic and the partner organisations for the gesture, saying it was one of the best free services she had ever experienced from the corporate society.

She came along with some family members and friends from her compound for the screening, and added: “I’m glad I decided to join this screening. I always thought it would be stressful but so far it is going on smoothly and I hope I get a positive feedback from the doctor”.

Another participant, Mr Joseph Magbo, said he had been looking forward to going for a check up and, therefore, took advantage of the opportunity to join the free screening when he heard about it the night before.
