Top Up Pharmacy Ltd, a leading pharmaceutical retailer in Ghana, has rolled out a breast cancer awareness campaign to mark this year’s Pink October, aimed at promoting early detection and treatment of the disease, which continues to rise in prevalence across the country.
The month-long initiative offered free breast screening and comprehensive care services to the public at the company’s Tema Community Four and Two branches.
The Head of Sales and Marketing at Top Up Pharmacy, Dr Isaac Buabeng Nyantakyi, told the Daily Graphic that the screening exercise was organised in collaboration with the International Maritime Hospital and the Tema Urban Health Directorate.
He added that individuals found with abnormal results would be referred for further investigations, including breast scans, at the partner facility, Lena House Clinic.
Discounted mammograms and treatment
To ensure accessible and comprehensive care, Dr Nyantakyi said Top Up Pharmacy had secured discounts on mammograms and medications for patients requiring follow-up testing or treatment.
“The mammogram, which normally costs GH₵700, is being offered at a discounted price of GH₵490, representing a 30 per cent discount,” he disclosed. He further noted that clients would also enjoy a 10 per cent discount on prescribed treatment medications.
Commitment to community health
Dr Nyantakyi stressed the need for regular screening and early detection in reducing breast cancer mortality.
“We want to encourage everyone, especially both men and women, to take advantage of this opportunity and get screened for breast cancer. Early detection is key to survival, and we are committed to providing comprehensive care to those who need it,” he said.
He described the initiative as a demonstration of Top Up Pharmacy’s commitment to promoting community health and wellness.
“By partnering with reputable healthcare providers, Top Up Pharmacy is ensuring that individuals diagnosed with breast cancer receive quality care and support throughout their journey,” he added.
