Bryan Acheampong courts Eastern Region delegates with promise of grassroots-powered NPP

Dr Bryan Acheampong has pledged to rebuild the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into what he describes as a “new NPP” founded on unity, discipline, grassroots empowerment and integrity, as he intensifies his campaign ahead of the party’s January 31 presidential primaries

.The former Minister of Food and Agriculture has begun a fresh phase of engagements in the Eastern Region after completing a tour of all 276 constituencies nationwide.

In recent days, he has met delegates in Kade, Akwatia, Asamankese, Oda, Akoroso, Achiansi and Akim Swedru, drawing large crowds and enthusiastic support along the routes of his visits.

Supporters lined the streets chanting “Sei kutuuu, sei Bam”, reflecting growing excitement around his campaign message and signalling momentum as the contest for the party’s flagbearership gathers pace.

Addressing delegates, Dr Acheampong said the NPP must undergo a process of renewal if it is to return to power in 2028, stressing that internal cohesion and respect for party structures were non-negotiable. “We are going to build a new NPP; one that listens to its grassroots, empowers its members, and stands united for victory in 2028,” he declared.

He warned that internal divisions could undermine the party’s prospects, urging members to recommit to collective purpose. “A divided house cannot stand. We must heal, reconcile, and move forward as one family,” he said, emphasising unity as the bedrock of electoral success.

Discipline, he noted, must also be restored as a core party value, arguing that accountability and respect within the NPP would strengthen public confidence and internal organisation. He said discipline was essential to sustaining success beyond elections.

Central to Dr Acheampong’s message was a renewed focus on the grassroots, whom he described as indispensable to the party’s future. “The grassroots are the heartbeat of the NPP. Without them, we cannot win. I will ensure your voices are heard,” he told delegates, promising to place ordinary party members at the centre of decision-making.

He further underlined the importance of integrity, calling for a culture of honesty and transparency that would reinforce the NPP’s credibility in the eyes of Ghanaians. According to him, rebuilding trust was crucial to reconnecting with the electorate and restoring the party’s standing.

Dr Acheampong’s constituency tours have been widely seen by supporters as a revival of party spirit, with many describing his direct engagement style as a boost to morale ahead of the next electoral cycle.

The NPP presidential race features a field, including former Assin Central MP Ken Ohene Agyapong, former Vice President and 2024 presidential candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Education Minister and Bosomtwe MP Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong. Delegates will choose the party’s flagbearer on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
