Detained Argentine vessel in Ghana sets sail for home
The detained Argentine naval ship at the Tema Port has finally been released and is sailing off the shores of Ghana.
This follows a Supreme Court ruling on Wednesday which nullified an earlier High Court ruling.
The
High Court ruled in favour of NML capital, an investment firm that said
Argentina owed it $370 million dollars which culminated into the
detention of the vessel since October.
This sparked a diplomatic row between Ghana and Argentina after government filed an appeal for the release of the vessel.
Argentina
subsequently lodged a complaint at the International Tribunal for the
Law of the Sea which ruled in its favour ordering the unconditional
release of the vessel.
The government of Ghana also secured a verdict at the Supreme Court to overturn the decision by the High Court.
Acting
Director of Ports at GPHA, Jacob Adokor in an interview with Joy News
confirmed the courts decision, adding the the vessel has been released.
