EC sets March 29 for Abuakwa North Constituency by-election
Following the death of the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Abuakwa North Constituency, Mr Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu, the Electoral Commission (EC) has decided to conduct a by-election in the constituency on Tuesday, March 29, 2016.
The MP was murdered in cold blood at his residence on February 9, 2016 by a 19-year-old man for motives yet to be established.
The suspect, Daniel Asiedu, has since been arraigned.
Per the 1992 Constitution, the EC must organise a by-election anytime a seat becomes vacant in Parliament.
Nominations
A statement signed by Mr Amadu Sulley, the Deputy Chair in charge of Operations at the EC, said nominations for the by-election would be taken on March 1 and 2, 2016 at the District Office of the EC in Tafo in the Eastern Region, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on both days.
“Nomination forms may be obtained from the District Office or the Regional Office of the Commission in Koforidua,” it said.
Candidates for the election shall provide two recent photographs (bust) with a red background, showing the full face and both ears.
The filing fee for the election is GH¢1,000.
