Dr Bawumia will deliver on promises — Tongraan Nanlebegtang

The Paramount Chief of the Talensi Traditional Area, Tongraan Kugbilsong Nanlebegtang, has expressed confidence that the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, will deliver on his promises to Ghanaians when elected as President.

“I believe Ghanaians are fully aware of what you have done as Vice-President in the various sectors of the economy and there is no doubt that when you are elected as President, you will deliver on your mandate,” he stressed.

Courtesy call

Tongraan Nanlebegtang was speaking when Dr Bawumia paid a courtesy call on him and his elders in his palace last Sunday, July 28, 2024. Dr Bawumia’s visit formed part of his five-day campaign tour of the Upper East Region.

He was accompanied by a number of dignitaries including the Minister of Defence, Dominic Nitiwul; Minister of Finance, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam; Members of Parliament (MPs) as well as parliamentary candidates.

“We know you have done very well as Vice-President but our cry is that we need more from you when God willing you are elected as the next President of Ghana in the December polls,” he stated.

While welcoming Dr Bawumia to the constituency and the traditional area as a son, he assured him that the chiefs and people were solidly behind him as he aspired to lead the country.

Addressing a durbar in Tongo, Dr Bawumia announced plans to convert the uncompleted Yameriga Community Day Senior High School (SHS) into a College of Education.

“We are going to complete the E-Block and add additional facilities and subsequently convert it into a college of education to train the needed teachers for the region to improve the standard of education,” he said.

Dr Bawumia stated that his presidency would be committed to improving the education sector for the benefit of the citizenry, saying: “I believe that the establishment of the college of education will go a long way to transform the education sector in the area and the region as a whole”.

Historic election

He described this year’s election as a historic one as the two leading political parties have both presented northerners as their presidential candidates, stressing “no matter the outcome of the elections, a northerner will become the next President of the country”.

He, therefore, urged Ghanaians to vote massively for him to serve for eight years rather than voting for former President John Dramani Mahama who can only serve for four years.

Poorest district

During a courtesy call on him, the Paramount Chief of the Nangodi Traditional Area, Naba Yelzoya Kosom Asaga II, expressed worry that the Nabdam District was the poorest district in the country.

While thanking the government for the ‘Agenda III’ hospital project, he called for expedited work on it to ensure its early completion since the district has no hospital.
