Ho pro-NDC group unhappy with some appointments by President Mahama in Volta Region
A Ho-based pro-National Democratic Congress (NDC) activists group, Volta Renaissance Forum, has expressed misgivings over what it describes as the neglect of “known” Volta NDC executives, activists and financiers, in the appointment of chief executive officers (CEOs) of various state organisations by President John Dramani Mahama.
Although the group commended President Mahama for appointing some people from the Volta Region as ministers of state and CEOs of state agencies, it said the majority of the appointees were not people who understood the political dynamics of the region, including the needs of the grassroots.
At a press conference in Ho last Monday, a spokesperson of the forum, Lizzy Agyina, said 85 per cent of the appointees did not vote in the Volta Region, and the welfare of the people was not their priority because they had no political attachment to the region.
She said the appointments of “foreign Voltaians” were a betrayal of the dedicated people in the region who supported the NDC tirelessly to win power.
The spokesperson acknowledged that although the appointments could not satisfy every politician in the region, some resident key stalwarts and loyal activists of the NDC should not be excluded from the new government.
She said the base of the party in the region was becoming very agitated daily without hearing of appointments of some party stalwarts in the region.
Urgency
Ms Agyina called on President Mahama to treat the matter with urgency, address the concern of the forum, and appoint faithful NDC party executives in the region to enable them to serve in the new government they fiercely fought for.
She also called for dialogue sessions to engage the grassroots, especially polling agents, on the NDC’s plan for their political growth.
The spokesperson said the forum would advise itself if the group’s concern was not addressed within a month.
“This concern reflects the views of thousands of NDC supporters in the Volta Region, and addressing them will help to strengthen the base of the NDC in the Volta Region,” she added.
