Kankam Boadu appeals for unity among NPP presidential aspirants

An aspiring National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), David Kankam Boadu, has appealed to the party’s five presidential aspirants to call for calm among their supporters to prevent internal divisions that can tarnish the image and unity of the party.

He said the appeal had become necessary due to the growing tension and social media attacks among supporters of the aspirants, which he described as damaging to the reputation and stability of the NPP.

He made the appeal at a press conference in Accra last Tuesday.

Concerns

Mr Boadu expressed concern about the increasing hostility and verbal attacks among supporters of the various aspirants on social media, noting that such behaviour was eroding public confidence in the party.

He said the situation was not only bringing the party’s name into disrepute but also threatening the foundation on which the NPP was built.

“The same political party that will make them Presidents is the one being destroyed by their supporters,” he said.

Mr Boadu urged party members to exercise restraint and place the interest of the NPP above personal or factional considerations.

Call

Mr Boadu suggested that the five aspirants, former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, hold a joint press conference to publicly demonstrate unity and reaffirm their collective commitment to the party.

He said such a move would send a strong message to supporters that the aspirants were not enemies but colleagues working toward a common goal.

“If the five aspirants sit around one table and assure their supporters that they are united, it will help bring peace and restore confidence in the party,” he added.

Mr Boadu appealed to former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to use their influence and experience to unite the aspirants.

He said the two leaders had played important roles in building the NPP, hence their intervention was necessary to protect the party's unity.

Electoral success

Mr Boadu described the current state of the NPP as delicate, warning that continued division could affect the party’s chances in future elections.

“The NPP is in intensive care. If we are not organised and continue to agonise, the party will have no one to lead us,” he cautioned.

He, however, expressed optimism that with unity and cooperation among the aspirants and their supporters, the NPP could recover and present a united front to win the confidence of Ghanaians.
