The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has stated that the December election will define the future of the country and generations unborn.

“The choice you make on December 7, 2024, is, therefore, very important. I implore you to vote wisely on December 7, by voting for competence. Vote for a leader with a proven track record of delivery,” stressed.

Speaking at the national campaign launch of the NDC in Tamale last Saturday, Mr Ayariga said one of the important reasons people vote was to see developments in their communities and transformation in their lives.

He said both Mr Mahama and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia had been Vice-Presidents before and had been in charge of the management of the economy.

“Whereas John Mahama as Vice-President supervised Ghana’s best economic performance under the Fourth Republic, Dr Bawumia has destroyed our economy, leading to unprecedented hardships and suffering for all of us,” he stated.

Mahama projects

He said he got amazed by suggestions by the NPP that Mr Mahama had done nothing for the north, adding that the evidence of the good works of Mr Mahama in the north was there for all to see.

He cited the phase 1 of the redevelopment of the Tamale Airport to make it an international airport, resulting in Hajj pilgrims flying directly from the Tamale International Airport to Mecca.

Mr Ayariga said it was former President Mahama who built the phase 2 of the Tamale Teaching Hospital; constructed the northern stretch of the eastern corridor road from Nakpayili to Bimbila to Yendi all the way to Gushegu.

He said the road from Gambaga to Walewale was constructed during Mr Mahama’s tenure as President, while the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia had not completed a single road that links even two villages together in his home region, North East.

Other projects

Mr Ayariga said the 147.5km Sawla-Damango-Fufulso Road in the Savana Region, the Gambaga College of Nursing in the North East Region, the rehabilitation and expansion of the Upper East Regional Hospital, Bolgatanga, the first phase of the Tamne Dam and the Bawku town water system, were executed under Mr Mahama.

He also mentioned the construction of the Upper West Regional Hospital; the Wa water system; the Nandom and Tumu Midwifery Colleges, as well as the Lawra and Wa Nurses Training colleges during Mr Mahama’s regime.

“Not to talk of the several secondary schools, roads, CHP compounds, electricity extension projects he undertook across the northern regions and Ghana as a whole,” he added. Mr Ayariga said Mr Mahama had a proven record of accomplishment, hence the need for the electorate to vote for him.

Experience

On his part, the NDC MP for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, asked the electorate to vote for Mr Mahama in the December election because he was returning with “unparalleled experience”.

Apart from Mr Mahama coming to the Presidency with experience, “he will come to the Presidency with a renewed sense of vigour to right the wrongs of the past and in particular, the wrongs of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia,” Mr Haruna stated.
