I deserve another term — Hajia Alima

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Gambaga/Nalerigu in the North East Region, Hajia Alima Mahama, says she deserves another term having served her constituents very well as an MP.

According to her, the electorate wanted her to go back to Parliament to continue the good works she was doing, having worked hard to address most of the challenges facing the area.

“They want me to continue the good work I am doing. I have been visiting their communities and interacting with them. Although there are still challenges, I am making frantic efforts to address some of them,” she stated.

Inauguration

Hajia Mahama, who is also the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, said this when she inaugurated a rural electrification project at Tunni, a community in the Gambaga/Nalerigu Constituency last Monday.

Facilitated by the MP, the community is the 39th in the constituency to be connected to the national grid in the past three years.

The community has a population of about 200 and the electricity is expected to open up the area and boost local businesses.

At the inauguration, she said the project was in line with the government’s resolve to bring the needed development to the people to improve their standard of living.

“They have been in need of light for the past years and I have been able to connect 38 communities to the national grid, and this is the 39th community. The community has a population of over 200 and has a big market which is one of the largest in the constituency,” she said, adding that she was embarking on a massive electrification project to get more communities and institutions without electricity connected to the national grid.

She said some of the rural electrification projects which had been executed were solely funded by her while others were executed with support from the Energy Ministry and Sinohydro.

Projects

Hajia Alima mentioned the establishment of the Sakogu and Langbinsi senior high schools and the provision of educational infrastructure for schools as some of the projects she had undertaken in the constituency.

“During the campaign season in 2016, the people of Langbinsi and Sakogu indicated that they needed senior high schools, same as the people of Gbintiri, and the good news is that we have established the schools and Ghana Education Service has absorbed them. I am happy that under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, we have been able to establish two new senior high schools and a new one is also coming up at Gbintiri,” she noted.

She appealed to the people to rally behind the government as it was committed to bringing the needed development to the area.

Commendation

For his part, the Chief of the Tunni community, Naa Kasim Salifu, commended the MP for the gesture and said it would go a long way to boost economic activities and improve visibility at night in the community.
